PT Gabungan Samudera Internasional has been sourcing, processing, and exporting premium Indonesian seafood since 2014.
PT Gabungan Samudera Internasional was founded in 2014 in Muara Angke, one of Jakarta’s most important fishing and seafood trading hubs. Starting here placed us close to the people, products, and daily activity at the heart of Indonesia’s seafood industry. It gave Trader Sam a foundation built not only on access to seafood, but on firsthand relationships and an understanding of the supply chain from its source.
As the world’s largest archipelagic nation, Indonesia is surrounded by rich tropical waters and sits strategically between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its vast coastline and rich marine resources give the country a natural position as an important seafood producer and trading partner. PT Gabungan Samudera Internasional was built to turn that natural advantage into opportunity—connecting the richness of Indonesian waters with markets around the world.
From Muara Angke to the global market, our roots remain an important part of who we are: close to the source, grounded in experience, and proudly Indonesian.
Mr. Herry Then’s journey in seafood began with a firsthand understanding of Indonesia’s coastal fishing communities and the enormous potential held within its waters. Being close to the industry gave him an early understanding of the people, relationships, and supply chains behind Indonesian seafood—and the opportunity to connect these resources with the wider world.
In 2014, he founded PT Gabungan Samudera Internasional in Muara Angke, Jakarta, with a vision to build a seafood company that international partners could depend on. Under his leadership, the company has continued to strengthen its standards, capabilities, and relationships across the seafood supply chain while expanding its reach into international markets.
"Indonesia is the largest maritime nation in Southeast Asia. The potential is enormous—but potential alone doesn’t create value. What creates value is discipline, standards, and long-term relationships."
— Then Herry Yulianto, 2020Under his leadership, the company became one of Indonesia's largest squid exporters by 2018. When COVID-19 disrupted global supply chains in 2020, PT Gabungan Samudera Internasional maintained exports above 500 tonnes per month — because the systems had been built correctly in advance. The company now exports to 23 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Oceania.
Export operations begin. First cold storage unit commissioned. Initial focus on squid and demersal species to regional markets.
HACCP, GMP, and Halal certifications obtained — opening access to Japanese, South Korean, and Middle Eastern buyers with strict import compliance requirements.
Consistent supply chain management and growing fishermen networks establish the company as one of Indonesia's leading cephalopod exporters.
Expanded processing capacity commissioned. Despite global disruptions, the company maintains 500+ tonnes monthly exports — a milestone noted at the facility inauguration by government officials.
A formal supply collaboration with Indonesia's national food logistics agency formalizes the company's role in the national seafood supply chain.
Active export operations across 23 countries. FDA registration current. Ongoing development of processed and value-added product lines for European and Gulf markets.
